Tired of Constantly Reminding Your Team?

Feb 06, 2026

A simple scorecard system that creates accountability without constant follow-ups.

If you’re tired of always feeling like you have to remind the people who report to you to do things, hang in there and watch this video.

I want to tell you about something that was on a very short list of things that had the most significant impact on my business once I implemented it. It’s a scorecard, a simple scorecard where everyone in the business knows what their most important two to five numbers are.

Quick story. I ran into a guy at the grocery store who I’ve known for years but had fallen out of touch with. It was great to see each other. We pulled out our phones and scheduled a breakfast five weeks out. The night before, I told my wife, “Hey, I’m getting together with Paul tomorrow for breakfast.” It came up that we scheduled that breakfast about five weeks ago. She said, without skipping a beat, “Well, you have to send him a text or call him to remind him. That was a long time ago.”

Without even thinking, and I’d never said this phrase before, I said, “Hon, big boys don’t need a reminder.”

This guy is the kind of person I feel would never need to be reminded of anything. That may or may not be true, but that’s been my experience with him over the years. I think he feels the same way about me. There’s an unstated understanding that if we reminded each other of something, it would feel like an insult.

I share that story because when we implemented a scorecard in our business, reminders didn’t completely go away, that would be a lie, but they became far less necessary. Everyone in the business knew what their most important two to five numbers were. They knew those numbers would be reported on weekly. They knew what they had to do to produce the results.

In the weekly meeting, there was a designated part of the agenda to talk about challenges and action items to overcome those challenges. Team members left the meeting knowing exactly what their score was on their most important two to five metrics for their role every single week.

This also solved another challenge: giving feedback to team members. I never found quarterly reviews or annual reviews to be very valuable when I was an employee, before I owned businesses. Even as an owner, I had metrics on the scorecard. I felt a little peer pressure myself to produce results.

That constant weekly feedback was far more valuable, to me and to my team, than a quarterly or annual review ever was.

This was a huge game changer, and it’s easy to do.
