Why You Should Be Doing Email Marketing in Your Home Services Business

How I Got Started with Email Marketing

About two and a half years ago—maybe a little longer—a fellow small business owner asked me, “Why aren’t you doing email marketing?

At first, I wasn’t sure. I had done email marketing in my restoration and auto glass businesses, and the results were great. So why wasn’t I doing it in my coaching business?

That conversation pushed me to start. Since then, I’ve followed the same simple blueprint, and I only wish I had implemented it the same way in my past businesses. The biggest difference this time? Video.

 

My Simple Email Marketing Strategy

I send three emails every month:

  • Two emails include a short video (like this one).
  • One email is text-only.

Each email is short—just three to five minutes—and always includes a simple call to action:

  • Book a call with me
  • Download a form
  • Sign up for a training session
  • Join a challenge

The goal? Building relationships through small, consistent steps. I want to make a promise and deliver on it. For example, if I say, “Need help with financials, hiring a salesperson, or creating a performance-based compensation model? Book a call with me, and I’ll walk you through it,” then that’s exactly what I do.

These emails are all about helping you grow your business. Often, I frame them around real client questions. If you’re in the restoration business, think about:

  • What questions are your clients asking?
  • What do your referral sources want to know?
  • What common concerns do residential insureds or property management companies have?

Answering these questions builds trust. People who watch my videos tell me they feel like they already know me before we even speak. In one case, someone watched my emails for two and a half years before finally booking a call—and becoming a client.

 

The Key to Email Marketing Success: Consistency

The process isn’t complicated, but it works. I’m not overly technical, and I’ve been tempted to get more sophisticated with automation tools. But life and business get in the way—and that’s okay.

Instead, I’ve stuck to three emails per month, every month. And the results have followed.

 

Why Email Marketing Works for Home Services Businesses

For restoration companies, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and roofing businesses, email marketing is incredibly valuable. Think about how often a client needs your services—it might be once in a lifetime. But if you stay in touch with them, you stay top of mind.

Even if they don’t need your services again, they have family, friends, and coworkers who might. If you’re consistently showing up in their inbox with helpful content, they’re far more likely to remember you when the time comes.

And if you’re a full-service contractor handling repairs and remodeling, email marketing is even more powerful. Let’s say a client first hired you for emergency services. If you remind them that you also do additions, kitchen remodels, or basement refinishing, you’ll be the first company they think of when they’re ready for their next project.

Without that reminder, they might just search on Google, Yelp, or ask a friend—and you risk losing the job.
