Why You Should Be Using Email Marketing in Your Home Services Business
Feb 26, 2025Are you leveraging email marketing in your business? If you're in the home services industry and you're not using it, ask yourself—why not? Is it a technical challenge, or are you unsure about the creative side?
If you're struggling to get started, you're not alone—and I want to help. In this post, I’ll share how I got started, why it’s been a game-changer, and a simple strategy you can use today.
How I Got Started with Email Marketing
A little over two and a half years ago, a fellow small business owner asked me a simple question:
"Why aren’t you doing email marketing?"
At first, I wasn’t sure. I had successfully used email marketing in my restoration and auto glass businesses, so why wasn’t I doing it in my coaching business? That conversation pushed me to start, and I’m so glad I did. Since then, I’ve followed a simple, repeatable blueprint that I wish I had used in my previous businesses.
The biggest difference this time? Video.
My Simple Email Marketing Strategy
I keep my approach straightforward and consistent, and it’s something you can easily replicate.
Here’s my process:
π© I send three emails every month:
- Two emails include a short video (3–5 minutes long).
- One email is text-only for variety and readability.
π Each email has a simple call to action (CTA), such as:
- Book a call with me
- Download a form or resource
- Sign up for a training session
- Join a challenge
The goal isn’t to sell—it’s to build relationships through small, consistent interactions.
For example, if I say:
"Need help with financials, hiring a salesperson, or creating a performance-based compensation model? Book a call with me, and I’ll walk you through it."
Then that’s exactly what I do. These emails are about helping business owners grow, and they’re often based on real client questions—making them highly relevant and valuable.
Why Email Marketing Works for Home Services Businesses
For industries like restoration, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and roofing, email marketing is incredibly valuable.
πΉ Most customers only need your services once or twice in their lifetime. If you don’t stay in touch, they’ll forget you.
πΉ They may not need you again—but their friends, family, or colleagues might. Consistently showing up in their inbox keeps you top of mind for referrals.
πΉ If you offer multiple services, email reminds customers what else you do. For full-service contractors, this is huge. A customer who called you for water damage cleanup may not know you also handle remodeling, additions, or roofing repairs.
Without these reminders, customers might just Google your service and go with a competitor. Staying visible matters.
The Key to Email Marketing Success: Consistency
This process isn’t complicated, but it works.
πΉ You don’t need advanced automation tools. I’ve been tempted to use them, but I focus on what’s simple and effective.
πΉ You don’t need a fancy strategy. Just stick to sending valuable content consistently.
πΉ You don’t need a massive email list. Even a small, engaged list can generate real business growth.
I’ve stuck to three emails per month, every month—and the results speak for themselves. One client watched my emails for two and a half years before finally booking a call. He became a client because he already trusted me before we even spoke.
Need a Nudge to Get Started?
If you’ve been on the fence about email marketing, I get it. I was hesitant too. But looking back, I wish I had started sooner. If you’re in the home services industry, email marketing is a must-have, not a nice-to-have. It keeps you in front of your audience, builds relationships, and ultimately drives more referrals, repeat business, and revenue.
